Ui Maine Kingdom Group is a collective of the Karst Farming Network, Celtic Eye Art Group & Taughmaconnell Community Centre who have worked as volunteers together over the past few years to highlight the importance of proctecting the unique Karst landscape of South Roscommon, Biodiversity, Nature, Water, Heritage, Culture, Folklore,
Myths & legends of the Landscape.
We collaborate with many groups & organisations including St Hildas's Services ( Athlone ) & the Irish Wheelchair Association ( Athlone ) to encourage a strong, positive & social inclusive realationship within the community, nationally & internationally. In protecting & preserving our landscape for sustainable farming for future generations we work on many diverse projects through art, biodiversity events, nature walks & talks, art exhibitions, workshops, video, newspapers, radio, social media, connecting & working with the local community.
Some of our projects in highlighting the karst landscape included Bia Bloom 2024 through art & nature design, culture & mythology which we subsequently were awarded a commendation, Ours To Protect National
Project with Classic Hits FM & Nova Ireland Radio, Launched Biodiversity week 2024 in South Roscommon with the Irish Environmental Network, Completed the 2nd part of our Biodiversity e Survey Report on the landscape with Ecologist Linda Gilsenan, Art & Design of the landscape through signage & a continuing story of our project through Pop-Up signs, collaborated with local schools, took part in Heritage week to highlight the landscape, heritage & mythology, podcasts, the use of Al to bring our art work alive to tell the story of the landscape through art work of Irish celtic Goddesses which are all QR coded. We have featured in the Grasslands Trails book by the National Parks & Wildlife Service as one of the 9 important grasslands of Ireland eare currently working on a nature project titled Nådür which comprises of weekly videos of the nature & biodiversity of the karst landscape. The project showcases the plants & wildlife habitats native to our ecosystem & their connecting relationship which is unique to the karst along with their benefits. We received a FBD Better Farming National Community Award in 2024. Our group will continue working on this important project to create awareness for future generations.
